Exelon Corporation | Next Challenge: Prejuvenation Revolution: What’s the Next Big Thing in Age-Prevention Skincare? |
Exelon utilities consists of 3 independent companies: 1) PECO 2) ComEd 3) BGE. As part of performance management and safety, Exelon monitors and tracks information about vehicle accidents from its fleet. The following two datapoints are tracked:
1) Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA): Unplanned events in which the first harmful event involves a motor vehicle in motion coming in contact with another motor vehicle, other property, person(s) or animal(s). It’s measured by number of accidents per million miles driven.
2) Responsible Vehicle Accidents (RVA): Accidents in which the driver failed to do everything that reasonably could have been done to avoid the collision. Also measured by number of accidents per million miles driven.
Below is a table of 2013 rates for the 3 companies:
MVA:
Year - 2013
BGE - 6.75
ComEd - 6.97
PECO - 15.75
RVA:
Year - 2013
BGE - 2.34
ComEd - 2.39
PECO - 3.46
The PECO fleet operates in the Philadelphia metro area, BGE operates in the Baltimore area, and ComEd operates in the Chicago area. Exelon fleet routes include urban, suburban, and rural routes.
Propose a solution (technical or non-technical) to reduce the MVA rate for all 3 companies. Please specify the following:
1) A detailed description of your solution, and how it would be implemented
2) Any new technology Exelon would have to invest in
3) Costs associated with the solution
4) Thoughts on cost savings and ROI after the solution was implemented
**NOTE - Solutions should either be a written proposal, or powerpoint presentation
Optional: Feel free to include images, video, or diagrams supporting the feasibility of your solution.
Criteria: Solutions should not include the purchasing of brand new vehicles to address the issue.
Additional Information: This challenge comes from the Exelon Emerging Technologies Group in partnership with Exelon Utilities. Exelon Emerging Technologies focuses on fostering innovation and bringing new technology to all companies that operate under the Exelon umbrella.
