Avon | Next Challenge: How do you think about the technological safety needs of children and other dependents? |
The global average life expectancy at birth in 1995 was 65 years. In 2025 that number will reach 73 years, with North America stretching into the 85-90 year range. By 2050, life expectancy may be between 110 and 115.
With that aging population comes a problem for cosmetic companies. Today, market penetration for cosmetics among elderly populations is only 50%. It is likely that the underserved portion of that population avoids cosmetics because they lack the manual dexterity--the ability to deftly control the makeup with their hands during the application process.
Choose a color cosmetic product such as makeup, lipstick, lip gloss, mascara, eye liner, or other, and describe how you think packaging or a device for these products can assist consumers looking to overcome dexterity problems. Be sure to specify the following:
(1) Product description and intended use, with images and sketches.
(2) The problem you want to solve.
(3) The benefits the package or device provide to the overall use experience.
(4) How the package or device delivers upon its promise.
(5) How your idea differs from currently available options.
