Historically, dry floor care has been associated with the actions of sweeping or vacuuming, while wet floor care has consisted of mopping the floor – usually with a mix of water and cleaning chemicals or detergents. These chemicals and detergents are known as “consumables.” Advances in technology has led to new 2-in-1 appliances that can handle both dry and wet floor care tasks, using new approaches for accumulating dirt, filtering, storing waste water or applying functional additives. We believe there is still a big opportunity to identify new wet floor care solutions to improve the lives of consumers and make wet floor care easier and more enjoyable. 

For this challenge, we want to you to think about your own life and the experiences you have with wet floor care both on hard floor and soft floorings like carpets. We want your ideas for what is missing in that experience and how you would solve the pain points you currently feel whenever you get ready to clean the floor. We want you to specifically focus on the consumables used for wet floor care, or the adjacent technologies needed to make those consumables work properly in a floor cleaning appliance. An example of an adjacent technology from another space would be the Keurig pod that is used to hold and prepare single-serve coffee.
