Dear Recruitment Team,

I am writing to explore whether an opportunity might exist to join your team of environmental & agricultural consultants as a trainee or volunteer. I believe that my experience would add significant value to your team.

ADAS is doing an impressive job at carrying out environmental assessments, such as the one for Ireland’s 2014-2020 Forestry Programme. Such evaluations are, in my opinion, a brilliant way of implementing sustainable development. Being part of your team may require knowledge of both Strategic Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact assessment which in my current MSc in Sustainability and Environmental Studies I am consistently gaining. A compulsory course of this Msc is about the Strategic Environmental Assessment. As part of this subject, we had to do a group work with the aim of realizing an “SEA Scoping Report with an assessment matrix” which proved to be a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in the identification of the main environmental pressures of a plan, and how to mitigate them. In particular, my team developed an SEA for a forestry development plan in the region of Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland.

In the second semester, I have undertaken the Environmental Impact Assessment course. For this one, as part of a team, I have evaluated the quality of the Environmental Statement for the Forth Replacement Crossing project according to the IEMA methodology. Also, I have recently participated to an event called “Engage with Strathclyde” where my team and I have presented our project.

The Green Infrastructure project undertaken by ADAS is a remarkable example of sustainable development, it shows that is possible to safeguard the environment while boosting the social and economic sectors. I consider myself as an environmental economist and I strongly believe that the current economic model is not sustainable anymore, reason why the shift to a greener and more sustainable one is necessary. I am a great supporter of the green economy and in my Msc dissertation I will shed more light on this concept by analyzing its impact on the international trade. In particular, I will focus the research on the effects that strict environmental policies have on the trade patterns within the OECD area, with special attention to the agricultural sector. ADAS provides economic and policy analysis services which require skills that through this econometric research I am strongly improving.
