My background in biI am writing to you to apply for the Internal Audit internship at AIG, NY I learned of this event through researching opportunities at the AIG campus website.
My background in biology and research has shown me the importance of examining the bigger picture; the factors that are not accounted for can often be the most important.. This role developed my ability to formulate a working methodology, critically analyse data trends and implement a time-constrained evaluation strategy. Through liaising with NHS Governance and collaborating with data specialists I compiled and co-published our organizational proposals. A key insight was learning first-hand the importance of auditing to maintain ethical standards and ensure regulations and procedures are adhered to within a large organization.
I believe business processes are ultimately people processes. In practice this means having the confidence to challenge other opinions with the integrity to take criticism of my own. As an editor of the student led news paper I research and compile reports for upcoming talks held by the society. There are often conflicting views on the format and speakers that should be invited on controversial issues, requiring a mix of active listening and empathy to make sure every one has their say. This has developed my confidence to pro-actively engage with potential speakers and make a pitch to gain their participation. Team-work is central to my role as ambassador for my university I enjoy the variety of challenges in this role from student grievances and liaising with the Student Union to representing the university at recruitment and publicity events.
Problem solving and leadership were central to my role as a data analyst with a psychometric company. This required analytic skills to organise our team to augment an existing psychometric product within a tight time scale. I developed my time-management skills to set achievable deadlines and ensure others had support whilst learning how to negotiate and communicate progress updates with the client. Active reflection upon my work practice with colleagues is important to me. I work to actively network and develop long-term relationships; work isn’t much fun without a sense of humour. In conflict situations a simple joke can often take the heat out of an exchange.
Building a career at AIG excites me for the opportunities to learn from and solve future challenges faced by the insurance industry. Thank you for reviewing my application and attached CV. I look forward to learning the next stages of the application process and the opportunity to demonstrate my eagerness for this role.
