Sample cover letter for Full Time position at ASWSUE

POSITION:

Student Senator

GOT THE JOB? Yes

Name: Hannah Lu Marie and Michael Austin

Date: 3/26/2016

Please answer the following questions:

1. What makes you the best candidate for this position?

We are the best candidates for these positions largely due to the fact that we have both served as senators on ASWSUE prior to this election cycle. However, beyond that, both of us are from two separate programs within the Washington State University NPSE campus, providing perspectives from both the engineering side as well as the communication studies side. With this in mind, we both wish to promote and encourage a sense of unity across all of the distinguished programs being offered; on top of this, we would embrace and reflect the diversity of the Everett community within the WSU NPSE student body.

2. What are some leadership roles you have had in in the past?

We have both held academic and non-academic leadership roles in the past. Hannah was Managing Editor of Print for The Clipper at Everett Community College, and Michael is Vice Chair of WSU NPSE IEEE Student Chapter, to just name a few. Both of us have helped in planning and organizing events, big and small, while collaborating with individuals who hold differing philosophies. We have had experiences with crisis management and problem identification in the past and have handled them successfully and with open minds, demonstrating our aptitude in being solution-oriented. Moreover, since we are solution-oriented, we're more than open to critique and discussion on how to find creative ideas as well as innovative solutions to any problems we may encounter.

3. What will you contribute to the WSU Everett student community?

We are both committed to serving the student body, as well as the community we serve at large. By listening and reflecting our peer's wants, needs, and desires, we will partner positive attitude and approach with positive action. Moreover, as President and Vice President of ASWSUE, we would remain consistent in our temperaments as well as our involvement. We will consistently be present and available to field any questions or concerns, and we will be sure to assist when and where needed.

4. What do you think makes a good “Coug” and how do you plan to embody this on the Everett campus?

Both of us believe that part of being a good “Coug” is recognizing that everyone in our community has a voice and has something valuable to offer the student body at large. Beyond that, the passion and drive that is so wonderfully exemplified by WSU NPSE students is also a part of being a good “Coug.” If elected to the President and Vice President positions, we would recognize our unique individuality as a campus and harness that into a community.

5. If elected, what is one specific contribution that you plan to bring to the WSU Everett student body?

If elected, campus unity will be one of our main goals. We are committed to fostering a community on our growing campus, and in doing so listening to the needs of the student body. We are and will continue to be dedicated to the success of both our fellow Cougs and the campus at large. When and if it is needed, we will rise to face any challenges presented and we will also challenge ideas as necessary with a spirit of determination and commitment.
