POSITION:

Mechanical engineer

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a second year Mechanical Engineering student from University of Leeds. I am writing to you with regard to the Industrial placement opportunity that I have seen advertised on the Ratemyplacement website. The information given there and on your company's website and also other sources on the Internet has strengthened my desire to work for Airbus and I therefore enclose my CV to be considered for the yearlong industrial placement.

As you will see from my CV, I possess all the qualities necessary for this role. I have achieved the highest academics results throughout my school and I secured a First Class in my First year at university and expect a first in my Second year as well. During my internship at Larsen and Toubro, I was involved in the maintenance of HVAC machines and installation of new parts for the machines. During that period I learnt and improved my technical skills such as use of tools and finding faults in the machines. I was also involved in a project where I had to help my team in designing the ducting of HVAC machines, this helped me to improve my CAD skills and also enhanced my team working skills like communicating constructively with the team members, working as a problem solver and coming up with new ideas while working in a team. I was also given training on Personal Safety, Plant Safety and Fire safety during my internship. At my University I was involved in numerous group and individual projects, where I had to use many softwares like CAD, LabView and Matlab. This helped me gain good knowledge of these softwares and improved my leadership and technical skills. I have also completed a course in PC hardware and MS-office. My job as a customer assistant in Sainsbury’s has been key in developing my communication and interpersonal skills. It helped me to work in busy environment, trying to reach the daily set targets and also to work without any direct supervision. I now feel that I am an articulate speaker, effective listener and a convergent thinker.

I have always wanted a career in the field of mechanical engineering and Airbus is an obvious choice. Airbus is one of the most successful business brands over the last few decades. A global company with a great portfolio, Airbus matches my ambitions because of its strong values, ethics and dedication, which can be seen by the fact that it has won numerous awards like Employer of the year Award, HR Excellence Award 2012 etc. Airbus will give me high exposure to the field of engineering and ensure my overall development. Working alongside industry leaders in an intellectually stimulating work environment will help me mature into a world-class professional engineer. I am always looking to gain new skills and learn new things and my aim is to reach this pinnacle of knowledge where I can diagnose a problem and come up with solutions by just looking at it. I believe working at Airbus will help me to achieve my aim. The quality and support of training available within the organisation is also important to me. It will be a pleasure working for a company which has produced the world’s largest Airliner (A380). I feel Airbus will add a new dimension to my life as an Engineer.

Thank you for your time and consideration and hope to hear from you in the near future.

Yours faithfully,

Akshay Kumar
