Dear Human Resources Department:
I am a rising senior at Brandeis University, majoring in economics and business. I am currently studying abroad in Shanghai and constantly work to expand my knowledge of both the Asian and International financial fields. Having recently looked at financial firms with existing markets around the world, I was particularly impressed with Alliance Bernstein L.P. culture and recent deal flow. As a result of my interests as well as my recent study abroad experience, I am interested in learning about the type of work that you do at your firm.
Last summer, I served as Financial Representative intern in life insurance and annuities at Northwestern Mutual. By working directly with clients, analyzing financial statements, and making investment recommendations, I developed leadership and analytical skills while simultaneously honing my knowledge of annuities, insurance, and other ends of the financial industry. I also had the opportunity to work with a $2 million whole life insurance policy that I recommended to a client at Northwestern Mutual. I am satisfied to report that in a matter of days, both parties agreed to the deal, which resulted in a $40,000 return for the client last year. I was also proud to be named intern of the month in July, an honor measured by a combination of factors such as total policies sold and number of referrals received.
I am a person that likes to be constantly challenged. For example, I am currently studying abroad this semester in Shanghai, China at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and also taking Chinese language classes. This requires a high level of flexibility to adjust to a new environment and it requires me to create independent solutions. In short, I embrace being challenged because it will only make me more driven to learn and build my character.
Given my background in the field, combined with my interpersonal and leadership skills, I feel that I am a particularly good fit for a Investment Management Operations Summer Internship at Alliance Bernstein L.P.
