limited number of role models to the public. In other words, it conveys an implicit message
to potential entrepreneurs and investors that Adelaide lacks brisk innovation culture. In
addition, Adelaide is well-known as a slow-paced liveable city, in stark contrast with the
startup culture which favours fast actions and competitive dynamics. Many young
entrepreneurs are inclined to seek more opportunities in hotspot cities like Sydney and
Melbourne. The most challenging problems for SA government to address is to develop
strategies to decelerate devastating brain drain and encourage talents to establish footholds
in Adelaide.
Secondly, due to geographical isolation, startup network issues loom large. Compared with
Sydney and Melbourne, too few incubators are located in Adelaide, indicating government
should employ effective policy instruments to attract more domestic and international
investors to provide adequate financial support. Lastly, government should provide more
entrepreneurial educations to enable breakthroughs in the relative conservative business
ideas. SA government should develop a strategic plan to grapple with network issue in order
to strengthen its connection with international market and make Adelaide the home for
young entrepreneurs
