Industrial Placement
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am applying for American Express’ industrial placement in finance as I aim to acquire the skills and first-hand experience necessary to pursue a career in this sector.
American Express is an excellent institution with which I could achieve this goal, especially as it has a reputation for retaining and nurturing talent from within. I am currently studying Economics and Politics which has prepared me for this position by providing me with a combined knowledge of global financial markets and current affairs, which constantly affect the volatility of the financial industry.
One of American Express’ business values is teamwork; a quality I have acquired through work experience in a range of environments, including helping to complete a team project in digital consultancy and working backstage in preparation for a show at London Fashion Week. Work experience at a barristers’ chambers highlighted to me the importance of client confidentiality along with earning and maintaining client trust, an essential when helping individuals and businesses to succeed financially. Social interaction with clients is a prerequisite for gaining trust, and communication skills are a characteristic I improved upon when providing customer service in a restaurant environment.
American Express’ reputation for providing a dynamic business environment in which individuals are given the opportunity to reach their full potential is my main motivation for applying. This is an atmosphere in which I have the potential to thrive; I am attracted by the wide variety of opportunities American Express offer to students, and the responsibility and trust placed in interns as well as the training and mentoring you offer throughout placements. Finance is of particular interest to me as it combines numerical challenges with the opportunity to enhance the well-being of clients, particularly through analysing trends in the financial market. The opportunity to work with a diverse team and clientele in an ever changing environment fascinates me immensely and would suit my skill set perfectly.
