Dear Manager,
I am writing to apply the archive assistant in Asia Art Archive, as listed on the website of Asia Art Archive. Asia Art Archive is an institute that I always pay attention to. The workshops, artist talks and the library provide me with so much knowledge about the contemporary art in Asia. Working for Asia Art Archive is always in my to-do list.
During my BA in Visual Art, I have been exploring my potential in fine art, graphic design and media art. In terms of the theory parts, I am well versed in Chinese and West art history, studying museums, exhibition and the art market. Combining my practical art and theory study together, I have the working experience as the cultural journalist. I wrote art reviews for Art Basel Hong Kong 2014 and won the Best Fellow Award. The award provided me the opportunity to attend the Berlin International Film Festival 2015. I participated at the Berlinale Talent Press taking place from February 7 to 12, 2015. Between these two big art and film event, I also practiced writing reviews for Film Festival – KINO/2014 held by Goethe Institut Hong Kong. Besides, I also have the experience of working as a volunteer for two months in Spike Island Gallery, in Bristol, UK.
The reason I am applying for the archive assistant is because I have passion in art history, especially the contemporary art in Asia. When most of my peers are trying hard to produce their own artworks, I am more interested in writing about art. For me, making archive is very meaningful, because it is kind of recording the history. While the most dominant art history was written in a western way, I think it is important to develop Asia’s own art system, which requires the efforts of the art historians, critics and curators in Asia. For me, Asia Art Archive is a place where I can approach loads of collection and documentation about contemporary art in Asia. Following the guidance of professional researcher, helping with research and practicing writing about art is what I expect from the job. I would very much welcome the opportunity of an interview to explain how I can contribute to the Ha Bik Chuen Archive.
Available working period: after July 20 Expected Salary: 13000HKD/month Please find my CV attached.
Yours sincerely,Wu Peiyue
