Sample cover letter for Full Time position at BAML
Quantitative Management Associate
I am writing to express my interest in the Quantitative Management Associate Program at Bank of America. I believe my academic background, my prior experience in ALM and Interest Rate Risk together with my work ethics and eagerness to learn would make me an effective candidate in QMAP.
Before arriving at my current graduate school, I graduated from my undergraduate university with a degree in Economics and Architecture. Both academic experiences, I believe, have given me a solid foundation in economics and finance, as well as analytical, problem solving and teamwork skills, which I continue to build upon with my current coursework. Most recently, I completed an internship at a NY investment services bank, in the Interest Rate Risk team. I had the opportunity to work on the credit-spread modeling project of the fixed income portfolio, to enhance projections of the portfolio’s future market value under stress scenarios. In this role, I reported on the portfolio’s positions using the Aladdin platform, collected historical data from a number of databases, performed regression modeling and other quantitative analyses using R, SAS and Excel, and aided in the documentation of the project. Additionally, I assisted with the reporting of stress test results submitted to the Federal Reserve and general support of interest rate risk analytics of the balance sheet. Through this experience, I have received significant exposure to the investment management/services industry, enhanced my financial knowledge, gained practical insights into asset and liability management and regulatory stress tests, in addition to honing my project management, communication and quantitative skills.
Prior to that, I gained a practical learning experience in commercial banking through my internship in the Strategy and Business Development team at the an international bank, where I worked on Profit & Loss analyses and the development of the Business Intelligence platform. Additionally, I was responsible for the expansion of the housing finance database as a research assistant, where I became well acquainted with reviewing financial statements and statistical data pertaining to international real estate markets.
The balance of my practical experiences and educational background fuels my desire to be a part of Bank of America and leads me to believe I possess the necessary prerequisites to succeed in the QMAP. I am excited at the prospect of joining your organization and in this regard look forward to the training and exposure that Bank of America provides. I would be very interested in discussing the position and my qualifications further. If you need additional information, please contact me. Thank you for your time and consideration.
