Dear Sir/Madam,

I am currently a second year student studying Building Surveying at Coventry University. I am applying for a year out scheme in Building Surveying, hoping to work for Baily Garner LLP, preferably at the London office, although I am completely willing to work at the Birmingham office if need be. My degree has always been a huge interest of mine and the broad range of uses for a Building Surveyor is a factor that drew me in. I am free to start a placement any time after May 2016, which is when my second year comes to an end. I wish to do a placement year because I believe that a year working in the industry would help me broaden my knowledge of Building Surveying and its many components. I think that the experience a year in the industry provides is priceless and will give me invaluable information about what I am dedicating my whole life to.

Working for an established company such as Bailey Garner LLP would mean gaining knowledge and experience from one of the pioneers of Chartered Building Surveying. A significant appeal of the company is the great range of project values, with some projects being as large as £400 million. This is evidence of the significance of Baily Garner in providing services to the Housing, Commercial, Care and Health sectors. I am aware that Baily Garner are seeking year out individuals for several Building Surveyor roles. Baily Garner was recommended to me by my lecturer Gary O’Neill, who expressed his praise for the company as one who provides excellent training to their staff. With this training, I believe I would be further prepared for my final year of study and when the time comes to look for graduate roles, more qualified than an individual who may have worked for a different company.

I hold the values of a competent, eager to learn and enthusiastic student who is willing to participate in all aspects of Building Surveying in order to refine my skills. With my hardworking ethic, competencies in computer software such as AutoCAD and SketchUp; experience in the use of Surveying equipment and the ability to effectively communicate and meet deadlines. I would consider myself the ideal candidate for this job who will always work to the highest of standards.

I am very excited at the prospect of working for Baily Garner LLP as I think that it would be an amazing opportunity for, not only myself, but for the company because they would have someone who is fascinated by Building Surveying and will work hard to complete my tasks.
