To Whom It May Concern:

I am currently a senior at the xyz pursuing a B.S. in Applied and Computational Mathematics and am writing to you to express my interest in working for Bain & Company as an Associate Consultant after graduating this coming May. I found out about the opportunity through the xyz career center and attended the xyz talk. While at the information session I loved hearing person speak about the chance to work with and gain exposure to top-level executives right off the bat, solve their hardest problems, and learn from the experience. The ceiling of professional and personal growth at Bain seems incredibly high.

Bain needs employees who can find creative solutions to difficult problems, which is something I do every day as a math student in some of the hardest classes offered at xyz. I know how to get to the crux of an issue and come from multiple angles in order to find the most effective solution, something my successful academic record in math shows. I am also incredibly comfortable expressing myself quantitatively and telling a “story” with numbers and statistics, a necessary skill in order to communicate to clients.

A consultant could find the greatest solution to a problem, but it won’t matter if he or she can’t communicate it to the client or the client won’t listen. My experience as the Director of University Affairs within student government, leading a team of 30, has allowed me to hone my ability to communicate a problem, the context, and a solution to my own team and other groups in an engaging way.

Bain offers exceptional work to clients who are at the top of their industries, so needs employees who operate at a very high-level and offer more and more. I bring a personality that is always striving to push and improve myself, which will drive me to go beyond for clients. Whether it’s climbing Mt. Rainier in Washington, leading a team on behalf of 17,000 students, or taking some of the hardest classes offered, I’m looking to get better and learn more. I will be able to provide clients with the quality of work they expect from Bain.
