I distinctly remember a class I took my freshman year where my professor told me that “one year in consulting is equivalent to three years in an industry job.” Having always had a penchant for problem solving and the desire to learn more, I knew right then that consulting was the profession for me.

Bain’s Associate Consultant position is the perfect opportunity for me to rapidly gain this depth of knowledge while making a meaningful impact on clients. The breadth of engagements across industries and functions is an incredible exposure to the variety of issues that firms face. Additionally, Bain’s Social Impact initiative draws me to its program – I have always been passionate about giving back to the community, and have done so throughout my formative years and at college. I hope to continue with this passion at Bain.

I have honed my analytical skills through my classes and work experiences. Through my coursework for my Business major, I have gained a solid foundation of the various aspects that affect a company, such as marketing, finance, and operations, and am able to analyze how these factors can play a role into a firm’s strategic and operational goals. Having pursued a major in Statistics and passed the first two Society of Actuaries exams, I have developed a strong mathematical foundation that will prove useful when analyzing quantitative and qualitative data. Additionally, during my time at (firm name redacted), I developed my Excel skills by manipulating large datasets using a variety of functions and working with Pivot Tables to pull and organize relevant figures from these datasets. The analytical aptitude I have developed through these experiences will be invaluable in a consulting role where data drives every engagement from start to finish.

Moreover, my coursework and work experience have developed my verbal and written communication skills, especially regarding expressing data. During my time at (firm name redacted), I pulled key statistics from financial data, such as correlation between two sets, and graphed trends over time. I then put together slide decks conveying the main points illustrated by these figures. Working on such projects where I took numbers and transformed them into a story allowed me to gain insight into the strength of data-driven information. Explaining the benefits of insurance to prospective customers and advising them on financial planning matters required for me to relate to them and present matters in a way that would resonate with them best.

As I have challenged myself throughout my time at college, I am ready to take on the challenge of a consulting career and am excited to learn every step of the way.
