Sample cover letter for Internship position at Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Center

POSITION:

Journalism Internship

Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Center

23 Everett Street, 2nd Floor, Cambridge, MA 02138

Dear Nancy,

I am writing to apply for the Internet and Society Internship currently posted on Berkman Center’s website. This internship caught my attention as I have been actively following Central Asia’s current situation with its cyber activity and communications with Internet through new media tools. I am very interested in supporting this with the help of the internship. The importance and influence of technology always was something that I have followed closely and been captivated by in both an academic ability and on a personal level and the opportunity to continue this as a career excites me exceedingly.

I am currently majoring in journalism at (university name) on my second year of study. My diverse experiences within academia and also outside have exposed me to be ready for different challenges which have given me skills to fit the position of an intern at Berkman Center. I have had a great experience at Google workshops and trainings on the development of Internet and apps, and how social media can be empowered to manage its impact on human lives. I am engaged in a vlogging on YouTube, which has been recognized of me well combining qualitative and quantitative data to obtain a true sharp understanding of something. Since I got to be a finalist of an exchange program, I have two years of non-profit work experience, excellent mutual, communicative, Internet research and computer skills. As I was an exchange student in States, the fact that I was brought into an opposite culture enabled me to adjust to any environment, from one year of studying in a foreign language to living a life within a society with different cultural values from mine. Both academically and professionally, I thrive in situations that require of me intense analysis, problem-solving, and clear writing. I strive to constantly challenge myself. Moreover, I trust that even at crucial times as the sudden passing of my mother at the age of 8, I was strong and willing enough to continue my enthusiastic attitude towards life so that I am a changemaker in my community to its better extent.

I hope to be attending this summer internship, and I am very passionate about other projects concerning your issues as well. I believe my peculiar background and skills would make a valuable contribution to the Berkman Center of Internet & Society.

My resume and a writing sample are enclosed for your review. I am available for questions at any time at (email address).

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

(Your Name)
