Sample cover letter for Internship position at BlackRock

 I am a second year undergraduate studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Warwick University. I would like to apply for the summer analyst programme at BlackRock and believe that my experience and abilities make me well-suited to the role.

I am a determined, hard-working person who can dedicate myself towards achieving a given goal. As the managing director of my Young Enterprise company I excelled in the leadership position, as shown by my nomination for young achiever of the year, showing exceptional teamwork and organisational skills which I have carried through into university. My work experiences, degree and extracurricular activities have given me the opportunities to hone my inter-personal skills which would be useful in a company such as BlackRock where client relations is vital. This is well illustrated by my employment at LOLA, an events company, which has taught me to adapt to new roles quickly and work effectively with new groups of people.

My motivation for applying to BlackRock stems from my long term desire to work in the financial services industry. This led me to pursue work experience in the industry, and I subsequently developed a specific interest in investment management during a placement at TT International. I have since spent time at BlackRock during an insight week where I got to know the company. I loved the friendly atmosphere as well as the wide range of services the company offers and am keen to build on the knowledge I gained during the week. The portfolio challenge where you get to run a virtual one million pounds during the internship appeals to me greatly. I have always had a passion for this, completing the ifs student investor challenge three times during my school career, and would love to try it on a larger scale.

BlackRock have an outstanding reputation in investment management and I would relish the opportunity to join the summer analyst programme.
