Sample cover letter for Internship position at Blackrock
Summer Intern
Dear Sir/ Madam,
My name is and I am currently a 4th Year Student in the. I recently found out about the opportunities at Blackrock and I started doing some research about the firm and was impressed with its unique story and the fact that 89 of the Fortune 100 work with Blackrock and the fact that it is a competitive global company, which has responsibility at its backbone and has an indisputable reputation. I am interested in pursuing a Summer Analyst Program - Corporate Strategy and Development position at your firm, and have enclosed my resume and background information below.
I am currently completing a Traineeship in Information Management at and I have previously completed several internships and jobs in the technology field. I became more and more interested about the business side of tech companies. I started talking to people in different fields and reading about markets and M&A tech deals and recent deals every day; I am trying to become a “student of the market”. I was also the president of an NGO and one of the things that I loved most was meeting with directors and executives to present them our projects and trying to convince them to sponsor us. I also enjoyed negotiating with them and trying to obtain the best win-win situation in order to obtain long-lasting partnerships.
During my studies, I tried to find opportunities to work or to get an internship and to get the best of them. For example, I completed two summer internships, at and and also two months of work as a 3D Content Developer at. I also founded an events-organising company. All of these helped me develop good time management skills, and an analytical way of thinking, practical knowledge apart from what I have learned at the courses and it also helped value a hierarchy and have a responsibility based set of values. I am very driven and committed to high academic standards and I managed to have an Academic Merit Scholarship each year. In the 3rd year of University, we had a team project that required us to design and build an aero-model. This project took us 5 months to complete and during the course of it, we had to judge which airfoil is the best and what type of wings we should use. After studying each variant, we were able to discuss rationally and make informed decisions. I have also been permanently involved in extracurricular activities which occupy a big portion of my time. Being the president of an organisation with 110 active members, I had to speak in front of them at general meetings. I also had to lead board meetings, draft business plans, get them approved and respect deadlines. In April 2014, I convinced the Dean to give the entire Faculty a free day for a national career event that we were organising. I delegated tasks and made sure that people were enjoying what they were doing by organising regular feedback sessions. In February 2014, while coordinating the Organising Committee of an international event, we were left without a big part of funding with two weeks before the event and we had catering contracts signed and other expenses planned. We had to deliver the event because it was imperative to not disappoint our international partners and damage our reputation. I gathered the team and we started to analyse the possible outcomes. We made a list of contacts and tried to schedule meetings. We managed to pull off the event, receive national media coverage and at the end of 2014, we were included Foreign Policy’s Top 10 for Education.
I hope that my genuine enthusiasm for this opportunity comes through and you are persuaded that I have the skills to make a strong contribution to Blackrock and that I am a good match with the company’s four principles. I am available for an interview at any time, and look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
