Sample cover letter for Internship position at Blackrock

I am writing to apply for a summer internship role at Blackrock. I am an accounting and finance student at the University of Southampton, and have a strong interest in developing my skills and knowledge in the investment banking sector and I feel that this role would be a great opportunity for me to be able to do so.

With an accountant as a father, I have always felt a connection with the financial industry, but I have always been aware of the importance of effective financing strategies for the success and growth of corporations and governments, and how this in a, wider sense, has such a huge impact on the economy and therefore society. This has sparked my interest in working within the investment banking, and particularly the client solutions sector of Blackrock, which I feel is directly related to creating sustainable solutions in order for it’s clients to grow. However, the business operations division also interests me because of it’s critical necessity is in terms of holding the company together and ensuring that it works effectively.

As a candidate I feel that am suitable for this role because of the transferable skills I have acquired through my various experiences. I have developed a strong ability to work effectively within a team in order to produce the necessary results. I have demonstrated this through my participation as a committee member of the Afro Caribbean Society of my university. Also, because of my experience as a finance intern, I know how to interpret financial information that will allow me to provide appropriate advice and make decisions. While I haven’t had direct experience in investment management, I have a strong sense of self-motivation that allows me to learn new things, applying the skills I have where necessary.

I have applied to Blackrock particularly for that the values that you possess as a firm. The importance that is placed on serving clients to the best of your ability is a quality I strongly identify with. Having worked in hospitality, I have a direct understanding of the importance of establishing brilliant customer relations and therefore how it can be critical for a businesses success. Another feature of Blackrock that really interests me is the strong culture of collaboration it harvests amongst its employee’s. I believe an environment inspires great productivity and has been a major feature in Blackrock’s success and have strongly encouraged me to apply for a role with the firm.
