Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Bombardier
Develop engineer
To my great enthusiasm I have read that Bombardier is looking for a Develop Engineer - Converter Control to join its Propulsion and Control Division in Vasteras. The aforementioned position not only reflects my interests but also corresponds to my qualifications and work experience.
Modeling and Control of electrical systems have always been in the center of my research interests. In particular, for my Master’s thesis in Electrical Engineering (specialisation on Power Engineering) in AUTh University I applied myself on tackling the decoupled control theory in the frame of active filtering. Subsequently, while advancing in TU Delft I critically engaged with the connections by applying the decoupled control notions in the modelling of HVDC connections featuring converter topologies that make full use of power electronics. My academic evolvement has also given rise to questions that I felt the need to fathom beyond a strictly academic environment. To this aim, I applied for an internship project in the Asset Management department of TenneT. For six months, I have developed a grid model to investigate the transient characteristics of the northern part of the Dutch grid where COBRA HVDC link would be connected.
Integrated systems that feature controlled converters will play an important role both in aviation and rail transportation. That is the area that Bombardier, maintains a leading position globally, through innovative solutions. Solutions such as the MITRAC, reflect a drive not only in demonstrating the company’s determination to strengthen its position in the market but also in underlining its constant push towards applying innovation. To this end, a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of converter control will be required and this is the point where my acquired experience in the field of transient modelling of AC grid connections and High Voltage DC connections that feature control of Voltage Source Converters will prove to be useful.
My study programs and work experience amidst international students and colleagues have not only provided me with the suitable qualifications but also have nurtured a team spirit and intercultural work ethic. The latter coupled with my language knowledge and technical expertise in converter control and modeling, I believe will prove useful in the service of Bombardier set of goals as a company.
