Sample cover letter for Internship position at Boston Consulting Group
Visiting Associate
GOT THE JOB? Yes
To whom it may concern
I would hereby like to apply for the Visiting Associate program 2016 at the XXXXX. I
have had the pleasure of talking to several BCG consultants, XXXX and
XXXXX among other, in connection with some of your networking events, How to apply in
consulting , networking dinner at XXXX, friday bar etc. XXXXX in particular has been very
forthcoming and she has spoken very highly of both the academic and social environment that I have
experienced BCG to encompass. Both are very important aspects of my ideal work place, which is
why I find BCG interesting.
I am currently on my third year of the Economics program at the XXXX.
The Economics program at XXXX is known for its rigorous analytical and quantitative approach,
both of which I view to be key aspects of the consultants toolbox.
My current job at XXXXX is very project-based and I am assigned to anywhere between 1 and 5
projects at any given time. This also resembles my previous job and I have found that I am very
comfortable with this project-based approach. On one of my most recently completed projects, I
developed an Access-based program to generate reports that provide a overview of all of the the
costs in relation to market data used in XXXXX. This project was done in collaboration with two of
my colleges and it ran for 5 months. The report is the first of its kind inXXXX and provides a
level of detail and flexibility that has not been possible until now. The project was very rewarding in
the sense that I got to work closely together with two colleges with completely different backgrounds
than me (one legal and the other educated in retail banking), but also provided valuable experience
on how to go about problems of which I have very limited knowledge.
One thing I have found in my past employments is that I have a flair for optimizing processes.
Common for all of them is that I have always found tasks and processes which I viewed as somehow
flawed or sub-optimal, and then developed some sort of solution to the problem. This innate mindset
for finding, analyzing and solving problems is what I believe will make me excel as a consultant.
As a person I am very goal-oriented and I always dedicate myself to the fullest towards my projects,
both professionally and private. In addition to a balanced skill set, I believe I can provide a motivated
spirit who is not afraid to take initiative.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
