Dear Internship Coordinator,
I am a current junior at xxx pursuing a degree in International Studies with a functional specialty in International Governance and Development. I am writing to express my keen interest for your Spring 2015 Events and Administrative Internship for the Project on US Relations with the Islamic World. After reviewing your internship position, I am enthusiastic to apply the knowledge and skills I have gained in the field of international relations to ensure a successful exchange experience. I am particularly interested in working with the Center for Middle East Policy division at Brookings because of its to bringing together the most experienced policy minds to chart the political, economic and social path to a Middle East at peace with itself and the world.
Growing up as a first generation-American, I have witnessed the vast impact of culture, language, and dialogue, which has stimulated my interest in improving relations between the U.S and Muslim communities. Through my coursework in both Cross Cultural Communication and Political Islam, I have gained knowledge relevant to public diplomacy, International Organizations, Global Governance, and International Relations Research, where my studies require me to remain knowledgeable of global trends and the constantly changing relationship between the Middle East and the West. My varied work experiences in Administrative Assistance and English teaching abroad, have enabled me to gain written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English, as well as organizational skills and team work building. My time studying abroad in Rabat, Morocco, made possible by a xxx Award, has also aided in my first hand experience of the role education and cross cultural dialogue in strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between Americans and the Islamic World.
As the youth engagement intern for xxx Foundation I have reinforced my observational and dialogue skills. Working with exchange students across the Middle East, Latin America and the United States I have had the opportunity to plan and organize events with the aim of establishing an effective, collaborative and global learning environment. In addition to learning about core programmatic activities such as Arabic language and culture, youth engagement initiatives and digital learning technologies, I gained research and administrative skills, which will be useful for this position. In regard to logistical support, my leadership roles in xxx Phi xxx Professional xxx xxx Sorority and Student Government at AU have equipped me with ample event planning experience, including communication with global leaders, professionals, and activists vigorous in the International Community.
As a dependable and hardworking individual, I would love to contribute to your initiatives within the Institute of International Education. I believe that this unparalleled experience will help me expand my academic trajectory by implementing my studies into invaluable work experience, and I would appreciate the opportunity to grow both academically and professionally.
