I am a first-year student at the University of (omitted) and am writing to apply for the summer legal volunteer position. I would relish the opportunity to intern at (omitted), specifically with your refugee and immigrant services, because I hope to find an internship where I can continue my commitment to helping marginalized segments of society. As a first generation immigrant and coming from a low-income community, I understand the importance of immigrant rights and quality legal representation.

My personal history, sense of responsibility and work ethic have empowered me with the fortitude and empathy to help those who, for whatever reason, find themselves in difficult straits in society. I have already begun, in my limited way, by obtaining a notary license and working pro bono assisting immigrants and refugees fleeing autocratic countries like the one I came from. Using my knowledge of Russian and Spanish languages, I translated and notarized their immigration related documents as well as assisted in preparation of asylum and citizenship applications. This experience helped me develop strong active-listening and communication skills as well as strengthened my writing skills. I will bring these skills, along with a strong work ethic and personal commitment, to (omitted).
