By utilizing knowledge and laboratory skills gained
during my MSc, I desire to become a successful sales representative in the life
sciences industry. Having achieved initial sales knowledge through sales
shadowing, I am willing to instigate a career in sales. My long-term goal is
a senior management position in sales.
2009 - 2010: University
of Nottingham, UK
MSc Stem Cell Technology
(Grade – Merit/2.1)
MSc Research Project:
Triggering mouse embryonic stem cell differentiation by combining
matrix elasticity and principles of plasma polymerization
Key Role & Responsibilities:
- Routine culture of
mouse embryonic stem cells and preparation of feeder layers for the same.
- Designing experiments
to achieve mechanical differentiation.
- Manufacturing plasma
surfaces on polyacrylamide gels using in house plasma machine.
- Performing
optimisation for immunohistochemistry experiments.
- Experienced gained in
stem cell culture & different molecular biology techniques mentioned
below.
2006 - 2009: University of Central Lancashire, UK
BSc (Hons.) Biomedical Science (Grade –
Merit/2.1)
- After my MSc, I
voluntarily shadowed two professional sales representatives from the life
sciences industry.
- I assisted Mr. Jon Rock (Life Science Specialist,
Sigma-Aldrich, UK) and Mr. Chirag
Tawde (Technical Sales Representative, STEMCELL Technologies, UK) during their sales visits.
- oKey Role:
- Observing how a
professional sales person opens and closes a sales deal through scientific
understanding & experience.
- Understanding the
sales cycle and the various aspects related to it.
- oKnowledge acquired:
- This shadowing helped
me understand how scientific knowledge can be utilized to vend a product.
- It also helped me
synthesize the basics of sales such as opening and closing a sales deal.
- I also gained
experience on how to expand business after completing a sales call.
Feb - Mar ‘10: Centre for Biomolecular
Sciences Laboratory, University of Nottingham, UK
Project Title: Human embryonic stem cell culture &
differentiation: A gist of stem cell culture through different techniques
Key Role & Responsibilities:
- Passaging and maintaining
a stable stem cell line on daily basis.
- Planning
differentiation, transfection and karyotype analysis experiments by
coordinating with seniors to achieve project goals.
- Preparing laboratory
reports and presentations for the faculty.
Oct - Dec ’09: Centre for Biomolecular
Sciences Laboratory, University of Nottingham, UK
Project Title: Assessing the expression of Nanog in differentiated
& undifferentiated human embryonic stem cells using real-time PCR
Key Role & Responsibilities:
- Routine stem cell
culture and performing real-time RT-PCR experiments under various
supervisors.
- Learning the art of
designing primers and the skills required to surpass pseudogenes.
- Interpreting the
data, performing statistics, comparing own results with other colleagues for
preparing laboratory reports.
