Sample cover letter for Internship position at Citi

POSITION:

Investment Banking Analyst

GOT THE JOB? Yes

I’m writing to express my interest in the Summer Analyst position within Citi’s Institutional Clients group that was posted on Indeed.com. I’m currently in my penultimate year at Columbia University majoring in financial economics, and I will be graduating in December of 2016.

I am by nature an analyst. Whether it’s creating algorithms to draft the perfect fantasy football team or analyzing market data to conduct the valuation of commercial properties, projecting trends is my forte. I am looking for an opportunity to hone my innate skills and put my education to practical use as a member of a demanding team, under the tutelage of a successful and seasoned mentor. Furthermore, I have spoken to various people who work at Citi and these individuals have confirmed the accolades surrounding the company’s diverse opportunities for career advancement and continued intellectual growth. Coupling my rigorous academic curriculum at Columbia University with my prior work experience, I believe that I have developed the skills required to succeed in the Summer Analyst role.

As an apprentice real estate appraiser for the last four years at Valuation Plus, Inc. I conducted market research and valuation analysis to identify inconsistencies and trends within the commercial real estate market. A key component of valuating income generating properties is being able to determine whether the properties’ income and expenses are on par with the rest of the market. In addition to conducting market research and valuation analysis, this experience enabled me to foster invaluable interpersonal communication skills, as I was required to both generate and maintain a large network of personal connections in municipalities throughout Westchester and Rockland counties.

When I read “Who we think will be a great fit…,” I knew that I was. I would love the opportunity to speak with you further to discuss my candidacy for the Summer Analyst position. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
