Sample cover letter for Internship position at CitiBank

POSITION:

Sales & Trading

Citibank is a top ranked global name with a rich history in banking. I am particularly fond of the culture in your bank where interns get lots of hands-on experience and gain fruitful learning points. I am very keen to be part of the vibrant and dynamic bank and hope to be given a chance to contribute and add value.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Business, specializing in Banking and Finance, at Nanyang Technological University. My course of studies comprises of investment, international financial market through systematic use of platforms such as Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters Eikon.

As part of the curriculum in school, my research covers the financial markets in the Eurozone and United Kingdom. Working as a team with fellow course mates, we produced weekly and monthly market reviews with accompanying trade ideas and investment strategies. This entails taking a top-down approach to understanding the macro economics and its impact on the financial markets globally and developing a perspective; at the same time, drilling through the economics data and overlaying the result with the macro outlook. To further fine tune and better align my investment views, I also reach out to market practitioners from time to time.

My internship last summer with a MNC treasury department exposed me to trading of foreign exchange and interest rate derivatives (FX spot, forwards, swaps and interest rate swaps) for hedging purposes. I find myself drawn into numbers on the screen. The buy-side exposure made me decided to go on sell-side to experience what it is like to be on the other side. I am very comfortable with numbers as I often work out my positions in my brain. I learn from my past mistakes and always try to apply them in the future. These qualities make me an ideal candidate for Sales & Trading.

Academics aside, I served as the Vice President of AIESEC NTU and led Global Internship Program with a team of 8 in my sophomore year. The team is responsible for securing overseas internships from our global partners and paring them with AIESEC members who are keen on gaining overseas work experience. From July 2014 to May 2015, we achieved a 200% growth rate in the number of internships secured and a significant jump in the quality of the internships with top names like Google and DHL in Australia and Taiwan, just to name a few, after we reviewed and revamped the existing process. It was a very demanding exercise but the experience and insight gained was invaluable and definitely put me in better stead for the challenges ahead.

I sincerely hope that I will be given the opportunity to be part of the Bank and contribute towards its vision and goals in any way that I could.
