Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a first year student studying BSc in Government and Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science. I am applying for the Women in Finance Insight Program at Citi.

I am involved in university societies, which have interested me in the world of finance and reinforced my interpersonal skills. As a member of the Economics Society, I am organising a research proposal competition that will be held among sixth forms, focusing on quantitative easing and monetary policy. This has alerted me to the effects of government policies on capital and equity markets. I am also Deputy News Editor of the Beaver, the university newspaper, and from this I have learned the importance of working in a team and managing tight deadlines. For example, we have four days to source and write news articles, which has honed my ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Being Communications Officer of the Consultancy Society has improved my communication and organisational skills, as I am in charge of editing and sending the newsletter, as well as put me in contact with high-profile speakers whom we invite for society events.

I am drawn to Citi’s Women in Finance Program because of the breadth and diversity of the three-day course. I have had the chance to attend a presentation on securities by Goldman Sachs, and this piqued my interest in markets and the financial sector in general, as I enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and constantly learning. I am interested in capital markets origination as well as private banking, and Citi leads the markets in terms of innovation. The latest issue of Toyota Financial Services’ $1.25 billion Asset Backed Green Bond is an example of this; I am particularly drawn to the commitment towards green energy that Citi has. Citi Private Banking also interests me because of the challenge of meeting the needs of high net-worth individuals by researching and analysing markets. Its private banking division has been consistently successful in attracting the wealthiest clients. In addition, I am attracted to Citi because of its commitment to diversity and developing female talent.

I am very excited about the possibility of learning more about finance through this three-day insight programme. Thank you for taking the time to read my application.
