Dear Sir or Madam,

This letter is in regards to my interest in the Public Finance Analyst position with Citi.

I am currently a Business Risk Consultant at Deloitte in the Risk Advisory practice, which is a practice that advises clients on how to effectively optimize their management of strategic, financial, operational, technological, and regulatory risk to maximize enterprise value. I joined Deloitte after graduating from Baruch College in May 2014, with a Bachelors in Economics. Being that I am a first generation college graduate, I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to expand on the values that I obtained while working in my family’s grocery store at a young age, by joining Deloitte and developing my analytical, technical, and quantitative skills. However, I have had a keen interest in the municipal finance space for several years, and am hoping to now gain more exposure by transitioning to a Public Finance Analyst role.

My interest in municipal finance sparked during my internship at a boutique investment banking firm, Global Gaming and Hospitality, which is an opportunity that I secured through my involvement in the Management Leadership of Tomorrow Career Prep Program. We advised a municipality, Worcester, Massachusetts, on whether it should host the development of a casino gaming facility. One of my deliverables for this project was to conduct research on host development agreements between a municipalities and gaming companies, as well as municipal budgets. I learned a little about how municipalities receive financing from banks to finance infrastructure projects, as well as develop hospitals and schools. After this experience, I did more research and started to appreciate municipal finance for being a cultivation of 3 disciplines: financial markets, economics, and public policy. I feel strongly about contributing to the growth of local governments, being that I grew up Washington Heights, NYC, a community that has historically been underserved. Municipal finance allows me to do that as a profession while at the same time strengthening my knowledge of the macro economy and financial markets. Furthermore, there is a great deal of satisfaction from knowing that Public Finance contributes tremendously towards the economic development of state and local governments by playing an integral role in infrastructure, healthcare, and educational development.
