Dear Hiring Professional,
My name is xxx, and I am currently a sophomore majoring in xx at Cornell University’s xxx. I was recently referred to Citi’s Summer Analyst – Sophomore Leadership Program through the xxx, one of the organizations with which I am involved on that has recently developed a partnership with Citigroup. As a Cornell student, I cannot help but to admire the firm and its employees. I walk past Weill hall daily. It motivates me. I hope to one day be in a position that allows me to show similar generosity to that of Sandy Weill. I sincerely believe that Citi can serve as the foundation for my pursuit if given the Sophomore Leadership Program opportunity.
Outside of education, I have worked for a Y combinator tech startup, consulting firm, and research firm. The vast range of experiences I have had by just my sophomore year has put me in a unique position with a clearly-defined goal to work in financial services. My work as a consulting project analyst and more recently a financial analyst has allowed me to develop my analytical skills and exposed me to a team-based environment focused on productivity similar to that of Citigroup. I had the opportunity to work on project dealing with generation of funding for a number of the high-profile arts institutions in the United States, and project’s success resulted in repeated use of the firm by the institutional clients.
Given my background in a number of industries as well as the skills developed through investment clubs and relevant coursework, I find myself to be a particularly good fit for a summer analyst position at your firm. I am impressed by the firm’s work on high-profile transactions such as the Sprint Nextel-Softbank deal as well as the firm’s dominant position in the industry. I hope to join and contribute your firm and look forward to the significant responsibilities given to Summer Analysts.
