Dear Recruitment Team,
I would like to be considered for the 2016 Consumer Banking Summer Associate position at Citigroup. I am a former Structural Engineer and Project Manager with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the US Coast Guard Academy. I have over five years of experience in budget management, acquisitions, and design on a range of structural plans averaging $1.5 billion. I possess thorough knowledge of the processes of financing engineering projects as well as excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, the latter of which I am further honing as an MBA student at the University of Georgetown McDonough School of Business.
Unlike most candidates whose focus is restricted to one discipline, I master both quantitative and conceptual thinking through a unique interdisciplinary coursework. An initiative-taker and macro-thinker, I excel in synthesizing new, complex problems and breaking them down to modular units that command action-oriented solutions. As a structural engineer in the US Coast Guard I have worked on a diverse array of jobs, including a complex housing rehab project in the Bay Area totaling $34M in addition to numerous demolition and renovations that covered a range of groundwork. My skills in PowerPoint, Excel, in addition to my focus on getting a job done well and on time, have resulted in all projects being completed successfully with very positive feedback from managers and clients.
Furthermore, in the last year, I interned at Sylvatex, a small biodiesel-additive manufacturing startup located in the heart of San Francisco, where I designed and pitched their first-ever fuel-tank farm for large industrial customers and managed over 250K of the company’s monthly accounts receivables and payables across 20 vendors and customers. I also helped Sylvatex introduce its products to wellestablished investors in Silicon Valley, securing four major investor relationships over a three-week span. Through my experiences in the Coast Guard and at Sylvatex I realized I am much more interested in pursuing business, specifically consumer banking on a global level because I want to make a greater impact by organizing talent and resources worldwide to provide financial solutions for companies and private investors in a fast-paced environment.
I am most attracted to Citi over the other large banks because of its long track record and specific industry knowledge in the advisory sector. Not only has Citi set the standard since its founding, the company has built a strong global network and presence by providing strategic financial service advice and execution in capital markets, as well as augmenting private capital financing services and board advisory services. This reflects an ambitious vision and ability to adapt to the constantly changing environment.
With my skills and drive to achieve excellence in everything I do, I believe I will be a valuable addition to the Institutional Clients Group in helping provide analytical-based solutions to assess and develop new business ideas, perform data-intensive analyses, and help improve the way Citi serves its clients.
