Sample cover letter for Internship position at Cohn & Wolfe

POSITION:

Intern

Dear ___________,

I am writing to express my interest in applying for Cohn & Wolfe’s summer 2014 internship program. I spoke with _________ at the ____________ last week where I learned more about your available opportunities. I hope to work in PR for the tech industry in the future so it was exciting to be able to discuss Cohn & Wolfe’s Nokia account with ______. After learning more about your internship, I definitely believe I would make a strong candidate for the position!

As an account associate of __________, our university’s only student-run PR firm, I have had the opportunity to create blog content and monitor social media activity for ________, one of our nonprofit clients. At my former internship with a local Austin tech startup, I gained experience in writing and editing press releases, sending marketing emails and planning social media activities for national expositions. In my college research classes, I’ve written multiple situation analysis reports and specialized media monitoring reports.

What I believe sets me apart however, is my proactive learning style and passion for problem solving. In my spare time, I act as the operations director of ________, the largest student-run, competitive video gaming organization in the nation. In my role, I have helped plan and facilitate two national-scale gaming tournaments with over 6 million total combined stream views. Though I had little prior experience, I quickly learned to help out by writing effective sponsorship proposals, leading a graphic design team and managing our live stage. The most important thing I learned however was to monitor and research industry trends. While I wasn’t an expert on the gaming industry initially, I was able to contribute valuable ideas in group discussions and carry out strategic plans confidently due to the independent researching I had done.

Based on my past experiences and developed skills, I believe I can contribute a lot to __________. I have attached my resume and news release for your review. Thank you so much for your time and consideration! I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
