I am writing to express my interest in the entry level consultant position at Compton & Wendler, P.C. Although I come from an engineering background, I am very interested in working in the financial industry. I have taken microeconomics and financial accounting courses to familiarize myself with financial concepts. I learnt about Compton & Wendler, P.C from the XX (school) career website, and your company seems like a perfect place to start my career. The most attractive part of this job for me is the opportunity to learn financial reporting and economic concepts that will be useful in my future career. Through my research of your company, the partners and consultants at Compton & Wendler, P.C all seem to have extensive experience working in the financial market, and I am sure that I will be able to learn much from them. I am very analytical, detail-oriented and passionate in problem solving. I believe that my personal strengths and experience satisfy some essential qualifications for this job and make me a suitable candidate.

Analytical skills: During my internship at XXX last summer, I engaged in analysis of a complex database and extracted useful information to evaluate the performance of our product. I was able to successfully build a mathematical model using Excel using the data to estimate performance of chemicals in oil field, plot clear graphs and present the data to senior management.

Problem-solving skills: As the committee head of Engineers Without Borders (EWB), I have led a team of 15 students to work on a large-scale pipeline project. There have been many critical moments of the project when I had to make an important decision or resolve a problem. For example, I was asked cut the costs by 40% within 1 month because of budget restraints. Within such tight timeline, I made the difficult decision to scale down our project to meet the budget requirement. Even though we weren’t able to build the pipeline as long as what it was initially designed, we were able to continue the project with the limited resources on hand. Consequently, we cut the cost by 30% and finished our project on time.

Oral and Written Communication skills: I have proved my communication skills by attending Business Communication course, presenting on various research symposiums, and reporting regularly to my supervisor during my internship. I am also familiar with writing financial reports when doing an internship at an insurance company, during which I presented the report to senior management monthly.
