Sample cover letter for Internship position at Cornerstone
Business analyst
To whom it may concern,
I am a Math and Political Science double major. I am writing to apply for the summer analyst position at Cornerstone Research. This internship is a perfect match for my interest in research and problem solving. My UROP research experience at MIT and my internship with People’s Daily make me a strong candidate for economic consulting.
As a Math and Political Science student, I am passionate about both quantitative and qualitative research. During last semester, I researched on service delivery protests in South Africa with a professor at MIT. We have created a database of the protests for the past decade, analyzed the general trends using Excel based on relevant newspaper articles, and compared our database with other governmental databases. Throughout the process, my collection and analysis of data helped to design and shape appropriate protocols for future researchers. I have also independently conducted a qualitative research comparing protests during apartheid era and today. This experience has honed my quantitative and qualitative analytical skills that would make me a good addition to Cornerstone.
Besides my strong analytical skills, I have gained economic acumen and editorial skills from my internship with People’s Daily, the official newspaper of Chinese government. During my internship, I researched literature reviews of Chinese long-term economic forecasting, and contributed to the column Voices in the finance section. This experience sharpened my understanding of macroeconomics and writing skills.
Hearing the analysts presenting during the info session, I am impressed by the vast learning opportunities and rigorous investigations they conducted. I am excited to work with Cornerstone’s professionals of different specialties on a diverse collection of cases under a challenging environment. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to discussing my qualifications further with you.
Sincerely
