Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Counsyl

POSITION:

Research Associate

Dear Counsyl Hiring Staff,

I am seeking possible job opportunities at Counsyl – in particular, as a Research Associate. I am extremely interested in contributing to the breakthrough work of interpreting large quantities of DNA readings from subject samples to provide useful information for healthier living. After researching various types of jobs in the biotech startup field, Counsyl and its mission intrigued me. Having earned a Bachelors of Science in Molecular Genetics at The Ohio State University coupled with over two years of undergraduate lab research experience, I believe I can be a valuable contributing member of your rapidly growing company.

Having studied Molecular Genetics, I have taken a multitude of rigorous science courses based in biochemistry and genetics as well as organic chemistry, physics, and math. Equipped with technical knowledge and sharpened problem-solving skills, my ability to view small details in context to the bigger picture makes me apt at analyzing large datasets acquired from carrier screenings. Furthermore, I am knowledgeable in various assay methodologies and will be able to aid in developing assays that are cheaper, faster and capable of higher market penetration.

My research experiences, as highlighted in my resume, have largely supplemented my learning process. I have routinely done RNA extractions from adipose and blood tissues as well as cell cultures, run QPCR and RTPCR assays as well as Chemiluminescence assays. I have dealt with analyzing numerous sets of data acquired from these assays and determined whether the results are statistically significant. Being very familiar with using various sorts of equipment and software programs, I am highly efficient at optimizing test runs for each particular type of assay. Additionally, I have excellent documentation skills, making me highly resourceful in troubleshooting.

The aforementioned information presents my qualifications based on education and experience; however, I will ultimately succeed in a startup environment because of my tenacious work ethic and a conviction to keep moving forward despite the odds. I am not afraid to ask questions. I am willing to find the solution with the given resources as I have done countless times in my two plus years of lab experience. Being detail-oriented, I am inclined to double-check and triple-check my work. I love constantly learning new things and finding ways to apply it regardless of how many times I might fail. Failure does not hinder me, but motivates me to take the next step. Most importantly, my experiences and intuition motivate me towards a long-term career in the biotech industry, ensuring that I will make the most of a first break.

I welcome the opportunity to discuss my experiences in-depth and how I can contribute to your company’s mission. I can provide references if need be and plan to follow up in two weeks to see if you require additional information regarding my qualifications and/or experiences. Thank you for your consideration.
