Sample cover letter for Internship position at Credit Suisse

Dear Sir or Madam:

I would like to apply for the summer analyst internship position of Sales and Trading in Equities and Fix Income departments. I am a penultimate year student at University of Redlands double major in Mathematics and Global Business and currently studying abroad at London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

As you can see from my enclosed CV, during a certain period of my undergraduate study, I worked at five different positions on-campus as well as off-campus where I was involved in many different teams at the same time. I was a peer tutor with five clients, an assistant for the Head of Asian Studies Department, an elected senator in the legislative branch of the student government, the president of Rotaract Club, and a member of a case study group with Target Co. I managed to efficiently achieve goals for every position and maintained my strong academic portfolio. One of my key achievements was that I let my team in Rotaract Club to finish our annual fundraising goal of $10,000 a half year ahead of the schedule by improving communications within the club and enforcing systemic reform. This experience developed my time management and teamwork skills and gave me the ability to work under pressure, qualities also relevant to the work of a financial analyst. As well as these qualities, my university studies have also developed my skills in researching a topic, making presentations, analyzing data, and managing projects.

Sales and Trading position attracts me because it is a position where I will be able to utilize my quantitative ability and analytical skill along with my market knowledge. Ever since I recently discovered my passion in the finance industry, I have been keeping myself updated on current global economic events and I decided to get a taste of trading by opening a mock trading account on Chinese stock market and the current return rate is 17.95%. One of the main reasons for choosing Credit Suisse is that I very much enjoyed talking with people from your firm. I talked to recruiters, analysts, and directors from both Hong Kong and London offices. They gave me great insights of the firm’s culture and working environment, and useful advice for me to achieve my career goal.
