Sample cover letter for Internship position at Credit Suisse

POSITION:

Intern in Asset Management

Dear Recruitment Manager,

I would like to be considered for the summer analyst program in the Asset Management division. I am currently in my penultimate year at Cambridge reading Natural Sciences (Physical), and intend to specialize in Material Science.

I believe that the quantitative nature of my degree alongside its rigorous, analytical nature will be of interest to Credit Suisse. In my academic CV, I have demonstrated my strong work ethic and determination to succeed, particularly in competitive environments. I am particularly proud that I overachieved in my A levels, receiving 4 A*s while my offer required only 4As. Through my accounting work experience, I learnt the importance of being vigilant with numerical analysis to avoid missed opportunities or errors. It also taught me the importance of financial modelling skills in my chosen career path in Asset Management, which led me to undertake a course in Microsoft Excel.
In 2014 I was awarded the South Loughton CC President’s award for services to the club after captaining successive youth teams. In this time, I observed that positivity and encouragement creates a synergy between team members, inspiring all to greater heights. I was pleased to see that each intern is assigned a buddy and a mentor, and I hope these teams will have a similar effect.

Asset Management appeals to me due to the thorough analysis required to build profitable investment portfolios. I have a personal interest in the energy sector, as I feel this will undergo the most change in the coming years. I first became interested in investments while participating in the “ifs Student Investor Challenge”. I was fascinated by the vast array of factors which influence share prices and how an event can cause a domino effect, influencing many different industries directly and indirectly.
Credit Suisse’s Global Citizens Program resonates with my own personal ethos. I found it pleasing how despite a fierce economic environment, it was still possible to help less fortunate people globally through extremely beneficial economic and entrepreneurial assistance. My research also highlighted the attraction of the role; in particular, I was excited by the level of involvement that analysts would immediately enjoy. I hope very much to be invited for interview.

Yours faithfully,

Ben Dover
