Sample cover letter for Internship position at Credit Suisse
Summer Internship
I have recently completed my first year at the University of Warwick, pursuing a BSc in Accounting & Finance. My regular attendance of presentations, workshops and relevant events has exposed me to a new perspective on the world of finance, and has therefore helped further my interest for the subject. Being an active member of the Warwick Investment Fund, I have been able to simultaneously demonstrate and enhance my knowledge on different financial topics. As stated on my CV, I took part in two video documentaries in which I explained the fund’s views on European equities and oil prices.
As clichéd as it sounds, I have been interested in trading since a young age; this interest stemmed from the 2008 financial crisis, where my father allowed me to purchase a small number of shares in a company of my choice. Selecting Ford Motor Company as I admired their cars, and witnessing my shares quadruple in value after the bailout is when I began to take an interest in equities. Although this was all down to sheer luck, I was enticed by the idea of trading and this prompted me to open an account with Intertrader on my 18th birthday. Naturally, it took time to fine-tune my skills, but by learning how to quantify risk in each trade, I feel I have seen a gradual improvement in my abilities as a trader in the last two years.
With a market capitalisation of just under 40 billion dollars, Credit Suisse definitely plays an important role in the investment banking market. Although there is a range of exceptional institutions, Credit Suisse sets itself apart by being innovative and progressive; to give just one example, the bank has recently launched a climate-neutral real estate fund.
Credit Suisse's deep-rooted culture of client proximity sets itself apart from all other credit institutions. This sense of approachability has helped it stand out for me. At Credit Suisse I hope to experience the reality of a trading floor and observe other areas of this investment bank. I am a highly motivated and goal-driven individual whom confidently embraces change and enjoys working under pressure. As a confident and risk weary individual I strongly believe that I have what it takes to face the challenges and hard work that would be expected from me in this new role.
