Sample cover letter for Internship position at Credit Suisse

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am currently in my first year of study at XXXXX, pursuing a BSc degree in Economics. I am writing to apply for your 2015 XXXXXXXx Programme, which I learned about from careers fairs and saw advertised on your website.

I enjoy working in roles which involve diverse activities and I am particularly drawn to Credit Suisse because of its emphasis on teamwork and its dynamic work environment, wide range of products, and focus on client needs. The XXXXXXXXXXXX taught me not only basic survival skills but also the need for teamwork and regular communication with group members. This was reinforced by the XXXXXXXX Target 2.0 competition and XXXXXXXXx which additionally helped me realize the importance of collaboration in tailoring solutions to suit the needs of clients.

In addition to acquiring organization and presentation skills, my involvement first as researcher and then as presenter with the school’s  team helped further my knowledge of monetary policy and increased my interest in financial markets, output and supply and the macroeconomy. As you can see from my enclosed CV, I was able, as part of my work shadowing at XXXXX, to spend time observing the live operations of markets, including the trading of equities, commodities and fixed income products and the closing of deals (in M&A). I attended talks at XXX given by bankers who work in the industry (in Debt/Equity capital markets) and was impressed by their enthusiasm for their career and the extent of the (real) impact on corporations/economies. I believe that your Programme will give enable me to learn more about the investment banking division and engage with the range of advisory services on offer, including equity and fixed income solutions for your broad client base.
