Sample cover letter for Internship position at Creo Capital

Dear Recruiter,

I am a Junior at UC Berkeley pursuing a degree in Political Economy and I am very interested in an internship opportunity at Creo Capital. I am applying to your boutique because I have taken a great interest in the different approaches to valuation in M&A in my studies. Seeing as M&A services make up 75% of Creo Capital’s clientele, I think that I can contribute to their financial valuations/projections.

I worked with Mobile Majority this last summer, and it taught me a lot about the startup environment, especially being able to work so closely with its managers and CEOs. Researching and valuing apps through reported growth rates and revenues gave me some taste of the financial side to a tech company.

Similarly, having worked at Pacifica Equities, I’ve had experience in preparing financial reports and liaising with tenants on logistical matters regarding leasing and space development. Pacifica Equities taught me about transforming industrial spaces into creative ones, tailoring to growing media and tech startups of Santa Monica.

My academic studies in finance include classes at Haas School of Business and personal readings of financial guides, such as Vault, that have familiarized me in economics, financial valuation, modeling, and accounting. Because I am not a business major, I have taught myself much of my finance knowledge and have implemented it in practicing projections in Excel, whereas many of my peers have knowledge only in theory. I have exemplified self-motivation and creativity in both academia and the workspace, which have allowed me to build ties in business and my personal life.

My hope is that by working at Creo Capital, I can absorb the extensive knowledge of seasoned veterans and contribute in a significant way. I hope to learn more about the cash flows of different types of companies in the M&A sector since Creo Capital works with clients in a variety of industries.
