As a third year Desautels Faculty of Management student of McGill University’s Accounting & Finance program, I am extremely interested in securing a position as a summer staff accountant in US tax at Deloitte.

Previous work experience coupled with the classroom knowledge I have acquired has enabled me to develop a fervent interest in the financial sector alongside my aspiration to pursue the CPA & CFA designations once I graduate in Fall 2016.I believe my vision to collaborate and promote an honorable work environment is well aligned with the nature of accounting and I am confident that an internship with Deloitte will help me achieve the ambitious goals that I have set for myself. I strongly admire the resources Deloitte invests in the training and development of its employees. Furthermore, something that naturally made me gravitate towards Deloitte is the amount of recognition given to employees for their hard work and vital contributions. Additionally, the way Deloitte rewards such determined professionals with flexibility and extraordinary life experiences fascinated me and purred my passion for the profession. These attributes of the firm’s culture as well as my conversations with Martin Roy, Jonathan Giguere and other firm professionals make Deloitte a standout employer for me and I believe my dedication and hard work will add substantial value to the organization.

Over the course of the summer, working at Eli Lilly & Company as an intern, I demonstrated my ability to innovate and thrive in an environment of pressing deadlines when I was assigned to a project of assessing and aligning the company’s local policies with global standards. I also learnt a significant deal of team-building and interpersonal skills as I worked with the rest of the finance team on yearly forecasting efforts. During the 2014 summer, I had the opportunity to participate at a summer internship program with A.F.Ferguson & Co (a member firm of the PwC network). I learned a great deal about the nature of Audit firm’s hierarchy and researched about Media industry where my team was operating as internal auditors. I believe this was one of the most valuable work experiences since I got the opportunity to work in a dynamic work environment, tackle new challenges and concepts and exhibit my analytical skills by assessing whether the internal controls were operating effectively and how they could be improved to positively influence operations. This position also enhanced my communication skills, as it empowered me to constantly communicate with the client on an on-going basis to inquire about audit working papers and to understand the nature of the client’s business.

For the 2015-2016 academic year, I am appointed as Director of Corporate Accounts receivable at the Management Undergraduate Society (MUS) and I take utmost pride in serving the Bronfman Community for all it has done to benefit the Management students. Constant interaction and pitching of MUS events & ideas to clients has enhanced my relationship building and communication skills and has directed me towards adopting a result-oriented approach. I have been successful in developing very strong bonds with the clients as I am naturally inclined to treat others with a high degree of empathy and respect, attributes that will prove to be a strong asset in the accounting profession. I have also served as an Executive Financial Consultant at MUS. The position not only allowed me to enhance my capability to administer and strategize a budget of approximately $1.5 million, but also provided a stepping-stone towards the development of my leadership skills as I chaired the finance committee for two consecutive years and received VP finance award in recognition of my services. These positions have immensely contributed towards the development of my professional judgment and decision-making, qualities sure to be key assets for a person opting a career in accounting.
