Sample cover letter for Internship position at Deloitte
Audit Intern
Dear Sir/Madam,
Application for Summer Internship with Assurance Services in May 2016
I am a penultimate year Accountancy and Banking & Finance student at Nanyang Business School (NBS). With a keen interest in working with a wide range of clients and learning about various industries, it is my desire to pursue a career in the audit field. Given its excellent growth records and a culture of nurturing and inclusion, I believe an internship in the General Audit department of Ernst and Young (EY), about which I found out from EY’s career site, is an excellent opportunity for me to gain valuable audit experiences and to network with various business professionals. At the same time, I would like to be part of the action in contributing to your organisation.
My internship with the Regional Finance team of Zalora has offered me a prelude to audit as I undertook an individual project to audit all the IT fixed assets of the Singapore and Regional entities. The experience has not only taught me some audit techniques, but has also greatly enhanced my analytical skills as I assessed the IT asset management procedures and IT database to identify potential risks, and recommended improvements to existing processes by drafting a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Additionally, the various interactions with different colleagues, in an attempt to understand their departments’ procedures, has also improved my communication skills. All of these skills, I believe, are some things that I can offer to the internship position at EY.
In school, I participated actively in the planning and execution of various school-wide events, such as NBS Day 2014 and NBS Freshmen Orientation Camp 2014. By ensuring that the programs ran on time with schedule and by paying close attention to any gaps in safety, I developed stronger organizational skills and meticulousness. These experiences also formed testimonies of my effectiveness as a team player as I not only worked effectively within my group, but also collaborated well with people from other teams. Furthermore, with my adaptability in responding to unexpected problems during the running of these events, I believe I am well prepared for the challenges when dealing with different clients and changing accounting standards.
With a positive attitude and affable nature, I feel at ease in connecting with people and this has enabled me to establish good rapport with my peers and colleagues. My exchange in Canada further stretched my interpersonal skills as I seek to build friendships with people from diverse nationalities and cultures. If given an opportunity, I hope that I can continue to hone my people skills, as well as other skills and knowledge in EY through interactions with aspiring individuals and professionals.
