Sample cover letter for Internship position at Deloitte

POSITION:

Tax Assistant

GOT THE JOB? Yes

Dear Sir,

I am a final year Law student, and I am expected to graduate in June 2016. I am writing this letter so as to seek admission for your job listing. I am currently pursuing a degree in LLB Law, with the intent of specialising in Taxation Law with a European and Commercial aspect. My interest in tax and commercial law was first sparked by lectures by my university tutor on cutting-edge issues in taxation in Asia. I was fascinated by the influences of culture on tax principles and by double taxation conflicts. I have a desire to study abroad because I believe that in order to be a good tax lawyer in an increasingly global environment, it would be essential to understanding tax laws in multiple jurisdictions.

I believe I have the ability to contribute to your University. I have actively participated at university, representing it at various Mooting and Negotiation competitions, whilst winning four out of five competitions. I have provided guest talks at Mooting workshops on how to provide a successful moot. I also act as a Senior Editor of the University Law Journal, and have ran for the President position for the BAR Society. I regularly engage in national essay competitions and engage in debating competitions with universities such as Cambridge, Durham and Kings College.

I have built a strong foundation in taxation having studied modules of income and corporation tax , and have developed strong research skills over the course of my studies and internship experiences. During my internships, I analysed and reported on the industry of tax and accounting tools in the UK. In addition, I believe I have the tenacity and discipline required for this area of study.

Law is a very broad field which allows for various specialisations, and I have had the opportunity to gain experience in patent law, criminal law, and commercial law. My most involving and interesting internship was in a taxation office, in which I truly felt my passion and personal motivations coming together. It was through that experience that I realised my goal to become a taxation lawyer upon graduating from law school.

I hope that my background in Taxation Law, will make me a suitable candidate for this graduate programme. For your reference, I have also attached my resume. Do contact me if you require any additional information. I hope to hear from you soon regarding my application.

Thank you for considering my application,

Sincerely
