Hiring Manager

Ernst & Young

Dear Hiring Manager:

I'm writing in response to the recruitment announcement on your career site, wherein you outlined opportunities for a full time position in Technology Advisor Program. After going through the company’s job requirements and getting in connection with some of its employees, I am convinced that Ernst & Young offers the challenging work and team-focused culture I seek. It is also a great platform for me to learn and acquire skills which are prevalent in the industry. I believe that I will bring a great potential with my personal strengths and experience which will align with Ernst & Young’s core requirements for this position.

Solid history of achievement in academics - I have maintained highest possible marks in all my classes and a current 3.95 GPA here at iSchool, Syracuse University demonstrate my academic success. I have also been recognized by the Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society for academic excellence.

Sharp Analytical Skills- I have worked as a software developer in a consulting company for 2 years and have developed application software on Mainframe. As a developer, I was responsible for analyzing the requirements of the Client (an Insurance company) and how these requirements aligned with their business strategies. My work also encompassed analyzing the current system and then designing/coding a new system to improve current processes. I have experience working in both Agile and Waterfall lifecycle frameworks. Throughout my career, I have endeavored to develop realistic IT solutions. I have in-depth understanding of the current business environment, as well as strong stakeholder management capabilities. The rigorous coursework here at iSchool and working on various case studies and projects have helped me enhance my analytical skills, learn about requirement elicitation, feasibility and risk analysis. In all my courses with data science and analytics concentration, I have analyzed different kinds of data- crime data, market data of a company, enrollment data of a university etc. I got to learn how to effectively use techniques like data scraping, decision trees, classification algorithms, statistical modelling, association mining and clustering to extract information from the dataset and then create visualization dashboards to facilitate the understanding of clients and other stakeholders. I applied a lot of this knowledge while interning with 3 CM LLC, a start-up which focuses in development of media products for children of Asian origin. The company was at the stage of looking for investors and the most important point in their pitch was the need for the product with such a large customer base. I was responsible for analyzing the market data from various resources like social media, surveys, google analytics data from the website etc. and then visualizing this data into customized dashboards for better understanding for potential investors.

Leadership and Team building activities- As a People champ/peer advisor in my previous company, I've enjoyed putting up information sessions related to Insurance and conducting various team building activities which motivated the team to work together in a productive manner. This has helped me strengthen my leadership skills while working in a team. I also work as the Creative Head of the NGO ‘Nanhikali’ for whom I have been volunteering for a year. My main responsibilities include managing a team of 30 plus volunteers and creating flyers, posters and brochures for the promotion of the organization’s cause and events. I am also accountable for coming up with creative events to raise funds for the NGO. I also have mentored the new graduate students at iSchool to ensure that they seamlessly adjust to the life as a graduate student and also help them with their problems regarding academics and career. I am a good team leader who can work under pressure.

Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills- My career in the consulting company entailed interaction with clients and convincing them of the credibility of how beneficial changes being done to the system were. I have done this through excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

All of the above attributes coupled with strong technical background and a history of working in application development environments, makes me an ideal candidate for this position. I would like to apply my past work experience in combination with knowledge through my coursework to the challenges that are faced by the Advisory Team.

My resume is enclosed for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you regarding this position. You can contact me at [email protected] for any further information. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards,

Harshita Mehra
