Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Ernst & Young
Tech Advisory
September 21, 2015
Dear Hiring Manager:
I am writing to express my interest in the Technology Advisory Program position at EY. I am a rising senior at Rutgers Business School, Newark, majoring in Finance and Management Information Systems, graduating in May 2016. Over the past summer, I worked as an IT Intern for Becton Dickinson focusing on Business Intelligence. Prior to this internship, I have interned as a web developer for an educational institution and helped them build a strong online presence. I have also held the position of coordinator of the local youth group in my community in which I mentored teens, and organized multiple large scale events.
I believe that my skills, experience and interests will be a great fit at EY. Through my experience as a web developer and IT intern, I have a wide exposure to different subjects in information technology. From coding in Java and HTML to creating reports and analyzing data to make key business decisions, I have obtained a keen eye for detail and seeing the ‘big picture’ while working on these smaller projects. In addition, I have also been able to successfully exceed expectations in both internships while collaborating with team members in the office, and abroad. While interning at Becton Dickinson, my manager was located in Baltimore, and my team members were scattered throughout the southwest and west coast. Despite this, I was able to communicate with all of them efficiently and effectively and lead the team to complete the project on time, while at the same time exceeding expectations.
During both of my internships, I had performed well beyond what was expected of me. As a web developer, I was able to give the organization a strong online web presence that attracted millions of viewers from across the globe. This was a direct result of talking to our visitors and staff members at the organization and learning about what they want to see on the website. This process helped the organization become one of the most well-known Arabic language institutions in the world. At my internship at BD, I was able to improve the performance of the business warehouse and reduced latency by up to 50%. This allowed for senior management to receive their reports faster and more accurately while at the same time making it easier for the IT analysts to create the report. In addition to this, I also conducted research on different reporting software applications that BD can use in order to improve their current reporting strategy, and presented my findings to senior management.
While at Becton Dickinson, I also took the opportunity to learn more aspects of IT by meeting with managers in different IT roles and learning a little bit about cyber security and Salesforce as well. I believe that they key to success is to never get too comfortable in your current role, but to explore and learn new things that can help you become better in your position.
Using my strong technical and managerial background, as well as my performance oriented nature, I know that I will be a great fit for this position. I look forward to working with EY in the future to help improve the products and services. I look forward to hearing back from you soon for an interview.
Sincerely,
