I am writing to express my sincere interest in a position as an Assurance Staff at Ernst & Young LLP. I had the pleasure of speaking with Yuwei Liang, a senior staff accountant at Ernst & Young’s Toronto office, during the Opportunities in Public Practice event held this past March. I was delighted to hear about Ms. Liang’s humble beginnings in the firm, and after much research regarding Ernst & Young’s extensive clientele, its people’s commitment to excellence, and its dedication to exceptional service, it is my hope to be able to contribute towards the goals of this leading professional services firm.
I am an ambitious young professional pursuing the Chartered Professional Accountancy designation through the only university program professionally accredited by CPA One. With a cumulative average of 90.1%, my desire to excel has driven me to seek multiple opportunities for improvement within these past few years. I understand that at Ernst & Young, leadership and teamwork are held in extremely high regard. In high school, I participated in a Town of Richmond Hill leadership program, integrating 35 hours of classroom learning in a summer camp setting. My leadership and conflict-resolution skills flourished as I taught crafts, led games and sports, and maintained an open line of communication with campers’ parents. My collaborative mindset and strong oral and written communication skills make me an excellent candidate for a position within Ernst & Young’s Assurance team. At Ernst & Young, professionals are expected to be both results-oriented and client-focused. I worked as a part-time sales associate at Guess Accessories this past summer, and found myself overcoming language barriers and cultural differences in order to establish rapport with customers of all different backgrounds, eventually closing up to $285 in individual hourly sales. I believe that this ability to translate interpersonal skills into tangible results will prove useful when interacting with clients during audit engagements. In order to provide quality client service, characteristics such as organization and attention to detail, along with technical proficiency are a must. As an accounting co-op student at the Sheraton hotel, I quickly gained competency in Galaxy Hotel Systems, which I used to audit hundreds of breakfast coupons, and was consistently recognized for my outstanding work ethic and keen eye for detail. I am confident that the above skills, combined with my flexibility, adaptability, and commitment towards continuous learning, will allow me to promptly become a productive and active member of the Ernst & Young team. By engaging with clients and performing thorough audits, I hope to be able to contribute directly towards the company’s vision of building a better working world.
