Sample cover letter for Internship position at FIT

POSITION:

investment officer

GOT THE JOB? Yes

Dear,

My name is Sorana De Roy and I recently graduated with honors as a master of science in business administration with a specialization in finance and risk management at the University of Ghent, Belgium. After a three year Bachelor program in Economics I decided to nurture my passion for financial markets by studying a Master of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in finance and risk management, which was based on two pillars:

(1) Portfolio management (2) Risk management

Since financial markets and alternative financing have always fascinated me I decided to write my master thesis about mezzanine financing, which involved analyzing data on several worldwide mezzanine-finance providers. In order for me to interpret the results based on this data I taught myself how to use SPSS, which has given me the confidence that I can rapidly learn new skills when required to do so.

During my education I was also required to do an internship, which I decided to do in New York as an investment officer for Flanders Investment and Trade. Through this experience I gained valuable knowledge providing tailored financial advice and services to American corporations looking to expand to Belgium. It was thus very important for me to develop strategic relationship building skills by listening attentively, solve problems creatively and use tact and diplomacy to find common ground and achieve win-win outcomes. Also, I was able to develop my technical skills in many areas of finance, including equity financing, debt financing and mergers and acquisitions. The combination of working and studying has given me both the theoretical and practical knowledge needed for any future international position.

As an economics graduate that speaks four languages, operating in a real worldwide financial center where customers from all over the world can be encountered, would be a great starting point for my career. I can guarantee you that I would be an added value as I am socially engaged in the sense that I easily cooperate with other people. Furthermore, I am a quick learner and a flexible person with highly developed communicative and analytical skills. Also, I have studied six months in Berlin in the context of a Study Abroad Program, which results in a good knowledge of German and in the reinforcement of the qualities named above. Lastly, I would like to add that I am a very self- motivated, dedicated person who possesses the detail-orientation and technical skills needed to excel in a fast-paced environment.

Equipped with leadership and interpersonal skills enhanced by education at an excellent business school, and bolstered by unique experiences, I am confident that I can contribute significantly to your firm. I have made a career commitment to the financial industry. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to be included on your interviewing schedule. Please feel free to reach me at [email protected] if you have any questions. Thank you very much for your time and consideration

Sincerely, Sorana De Roy
