Business Analyst
Respected Madam,
I am writing to you to express my interest in an internship with J-Pal as a Researcher. I am a first year
Teaching Fellow with Teach For India (TFI) in Mumbai.
I joined TFI in June, 2014 because I felt that the social and financial status of an individual should not
determine their future and hence I decided to be a part of a movement that worked towards eliminating
education inequity. As a part of this organization, I have explored the sector and acquired a skill set I
hope to hone by interning with your organization. In the past one year, I have seen a huge gap between
policy and implementation and this is the space that I want to work in, post the fellowship, in order to
tap this gap.
In the past year, I have strengthened my planning and leadership skills through daily class instructions
and organizational meetings which have helped me manage various projects at once. Working with
various stakeholders in and outside the organization which includes fellows, school staff and the
community has helped strengthen my collaboration and team work skills. Furthermore, as a part of the
Policy Focus Group (PFG) in TFI, we discussed and deliberated on various issues in this sector - ranging
from teacher training to the role of the governments in education - which has in turn sharpened my
research skills and this knowledge will help me address the discrepancies between policy making and its
eventual implementation and impact.
Prior to TFI, my work at Thomson Reuters as a Research Analyst helped me enhance my skills in
gathering information using various research tools as well as preparing due diligence complex reports
for clients. Also my works as a Research Analyst at Directi, which dealt primarily with internet marketing
solutions, I liaised with specialists from various departments to facilitate maximization of revenue. This
helped me develop and enhance my communication skills.
Through my time with all these organizations, I have been exposed to the field of research and this is
where my interest in an internship with your organization stems from. Being an Economics student and
currently working in the development sector, I believe the exposure and access that I shall gain from
your esteemed organization shall be invaluable to my work as a second year fellow and eventually in the
development sector.
J-Pal is a leader in the research and policy industry and hence, I see no better place to gain an
understanding of this field. This internship will provide me an opportunity to see which areas of research
would best fit my strengths. I look forward to further discussing this opportunity at your convenience.
