Program Specialist
I wish to apply for the position of Development Officer at Free the Children, an organization that creates and promotes culturally appropriate and gender-sensitive development projects- two factors that are important to my professional development as it aligns with deep personal values. As a resource mobilization consultant at UN Women, I work on projects, administrative tasks and fundraising initiatives identical to the position of Development Officer at Free the Children. Accordingly, I will like to take this opportunity to explain how I am a deserving candidate for this role based on my educational background, work experience and extensive volunteerism in development organizations.
Graduating from London School of Economics with a postgraduate degree in Gender, Development and Globalization, I am theoretically well versed in the challenges of development in an uneven and complex world were human dignity is being erased due to increase poverty levels created by and not limited to gender inequalities, climate change, lack of economic opportunities. As a Development Officer, my theoretical knowledge will serve as the bedrock of my motivation to be highly attentive and passionate to the programs being supported by Free the Children.
In my current role at UN Women under the strategic partnership and resource mobilization department, I support the 150/250 fundraising campaign, the goal being to get a 150 countries to contribute $250 million in total core and non-core resources. Through writing donor reports, visiting embassies of member states, preparing materials for government aid agencies such as USAID, the UK’s DFID and Global Affairs Canada amongst others, I am proud of coordinating and collaborating with numerous departments within UN to help my team reach the goal of getting 150 financial pledges from 150 countries. Prior to UN Women, I was a research consultant at FORWARD, a women’s health research and development foundation committed to gender equality of African girls and women. I created a 60-page toolkit whilst working very closely with the Executive Director to write literature on FORWARD’s partnership with African and European governments in tackling discriminatory practices.
