Sample cover letter for Internship position at GE

I am extremely excited about applying to be an FMP intern at General Electric. I learned of this position from my sister who is currently working in the FMP program for the GE medical division. I am extremely interested in this internship because of the direction I would like to take my career.

I am currently a rising senior at studying Finance at Elon University in North Carolina. I am studying Finance. I have a 3.1 GPA, and am a student leader and player on the Elon club lacrosse team.

You indicate that you are looking for someone who is a proven leader, shows analytical and communication skills, is change oriented, and is a team player. I display these qualities across a number of areas. Along with being the social chair of my fraternity and member of the Club Lacrosse Team, I am also head of our largest annual philanthropy event, Derby Days, raising over $7,500 in one week this year. This event called for my to exercise my leadership and communication skills as I had to coordinate with 9 other organizations as well as mobilize the members of my fraternity into action.

Travel and change have never impaired my ability to be productive. Born and raised in Connecticut, I chose to attend college in North Carolina where I have excelled both as a student and as a campus leader. This past semester I studied abroad in South Africa at the University of Cape Town where I experienced a foreign culture and learning environment. Along with handling my course load, I also volunteered at The Ark Refuge Center where I assisted with schooling for underprivileged children.

This past summer I worked as a summer intern with Fortress Investment Group for their private equity portfolio company called New Media. While working there I conducted acquisition research on various newspaper companies. I also researched small and medium sized business lenders to help leadership evaluate potential entrance into the market. This internship gave me my first real world business experience, where communication and collaboration with fellow interns and superiors was imperative for success.
