From competing in math’s competitions and representing my secondary school to having the opportunity to work with clients at a welfare association, I have cultivated many qualities such as the ability to work in a team and take on the role of a leader. Regular economics and mathematics competitions repeatedly put me in a situation where I had to deal with pressure from large crowds and opponents, yet I confidently dealt with situations rationally and analytically to formulate quick, strategic and operative ideas.

Investment banking and securities (sales and trading) interest me the most and I have started to further my knowledge in both divisions. I trade FX and CFD to give me an insight into the world of a trader. Nonetheless, being able to experience first hand shadowing or case study assignments would be imperative to my learning of trading. Having previously attended a Corporate & Investment Banking - Sales, Trading & Research - Trading Game hosted by J.P Morgan, I had the opportunity to work in a group with a variety of students including undergraduates and postgraduates. The game required strong communication skills to trade with other groups and I was able to lead my group to winning all 3 rounds by making the most profit.

As described by CNBC, the “most formidable internal culture of commitment and teamwork of any organization in finance in the history of the world” is a global phenomenon. There is also no surprise that it has created an array of successful individuals such as the current US treasury secretary Henry M. Paulson and President of the ECB Mario Draghi. From my reading, Goldman Sachs is “the meritocracy system” applied to reality and is the genuine destination for every talented financial mind.
